The Vienna Philharmonic is an investment coin  of one ounce pure gold. It is stroken annually by La Monnaie d'Autriche in Vienna. The first coin was made in 1989 and as such was the  first European investment gold coin.

Its purity is 999.9 / 1000 and therefore 24 Carats. It weighs exactly the weight of one ounce (31.1035gr). Its diameter is 37 mm, making it one of the largest pieces of an ounce of gold.

From 1989 to 2001 its face value was 2000 Schillings. From 2001 until today its facel value is 100EUR.

It exists in different formats:

  • 1 Ounce

  • ½ Ounce

  • ¼ Ounce

  • 1/10 Ounce

  • 1/20 Ounce

The obverse of the coin takes up a representation of the Vienna State Opera (Musikverein) where the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performs. The obverse resumes the nominal value (Euro or Schillings) of the coin as well as its fineness (999.9) and its weight "Unze" (ounce in German).

The inscription "Republik Osterreich" is present above the Grand Opera.

The reverse takes back a set of musical instruments. We see four violins, a bass, a harp and a horn. We find the inscription "Wiener Philharmoniker" above the musical instruments.
