The Australian Nugget is a 1 oz gold coin (31.10348 g of pure gold). It was created in 1986 by Perth Mint.
The reverse of the coin initially showed a gold nugget. The obverse represent, like the Canadian Maple Leaf, Elizabeth's two portrait, now Charles III. From 1989, the gold nugget left its place to the Australian kangaroo. Despite this change, the denomination of the coin remained "Nugget". Like the Chinese Panda, the reverse of the Australian Nugget changes every year.
The Nugget has a purity of 999.9 (24 carats).
The Australian Nugget has different face values ranging from AU$ 5 to AU$ 3000. This value varies depending on the weight of the coin. The gold weight of the Australian Nugget ranges from 1.555175 g to 1000 g per piece. The Australian Nugget is one of the largest gold coins.
